Disasters & Children
Morton County Emergency Management has been working on developing a listing of information and resources parents, teachers, or caregivers can use to teach children about what to do before, during, and after emergencies. The information focuses on the natural disasters encountered most often in North Dakota: tornados, thunderstorms, floods, winter storms, and fires. It is most appropriate for older preschool and K-3 age children.
There is information and safety tips about each of the natural disasters which children should learn. By doing so, lives can be saved and injuries can be prevented. The listing of websites below can be used to access activities, games, stories, and additional information. The stories may be most useful for the younger students; whereas, the upper grades (2-3) may enjoy the hands on learning of the games and activities. All of this information can be tailored to a specific age group or incorporated into existing lesson plans for teachers. Please share this information with the children in your lives.
If you have any further questions or if you need additional information or resources, please contact Morton County Emergency Management at (701)667-3307.
