New Community Food Pantry Installed at Morton County Courthouse
Mandan, ND — Morton County is proud to announce the installation of a new community food pantry, generously built and donated by the Falling Stars 4-H group. Located on the northwest corner of the Morton County Courthouse grounds, this pantry was created with one goal in mind: to support individuals and families in our area who may be facing food insecurity.
This youth-led initiative is more than a simple pantry—it’s a symbol of community care and compassion. The 4-H members involved in this project have not only constructed the pantry but will also take an active role in managing it. They will restock shelves, track donations, and ensure the pantry remains a reliable and accessible resource.
The pantry will be stocked with non-perishable food items such as canned goods, pasta, and shelf-stable products. A soft launch is already underway, with the first donations being collected and organized by 4-H volunteers at the Morton County Courthouse starting
“We’re incredibly proud to support this meaningful project,” said Wendy Bent, Morton County Director of Human Resources. “The generosity and leadership shown by the Falling Stars 4-H group is inspiring, and this pantry will be a valuable resource for our community. It’s a reminder that small acts of kindness can make a big difference.”
Morton County employees will be among the first to support this effort, helping to stock the pantry before it opens to the public. Both non-perishable food items and small monetary donations are welcome and will go directly toward keeping the pantry filled and ready to serve.
The 4-H group will maintain a donation register and track how many items are distributed, giving a clear picture of the pantry’s reach and use. Every contribution—large or small—makes a difference. This project is a testament to what’s possible when youth and local government work together—neighbors helping neighbors, right here at home.
