High-speed chase leads to Minot man’s arrest

Mandan, N.D. – The Morton County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 34-year-old man from Minot following a high-speed chase along Highway 1806 this morning.

At approximately 9:00 a.m. the Mandan Police Department attempted to pull over Matthew Mize who was driving a suspicious vehicle in Mandan, but Mize refused to stop and fled out of the City limits southbound on Highway 1806. A MCSO deputy was able to locate Mize and his vehicle at Little Heart Bottoms. The deputy exited his vehicle, but when he ordered Mize to get out of his vehicle, Mize fled and led the deputy on a high-speed chase southbound on 1806. Mize crashed his vehicle in a ditch but then proceeded to drive out and continue fleeing, clocking speeds of 80 to 90 mph.

Another MCSO deputy spread a spike strip along the highway. The spike strip deflated two of Mize’s vehicle tires but the chase continued. The North Dakota Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Indian Affairs assisted in the pursuit and Mize’s vehicle eventually came to a stop along 1806 near Prairie Knights Casino. The MCSO took the suspect into custody and delivered him to the Mandan Police who then transported him to the Burleigh/Morton Detention Center.

Mize faces charges of Reckless Endangerment, Reckless Driving, Fleeing a Police Officer, Driving with a Suspended License, and Possession of Marijuana.
