Morton County names new Veterans Service Officer

Mandan, N.D. – Last night, Morton County Commissioners approved the appointment of Mitchell Erhardt, a New Salem native, as Morton/Oliver County Veterans Service Officer.

Erhardt served 30 years in the United States Navy, concluding that time as Executive Manager of Strategic Weapons Facility Pacific in which he was responsible for providing leadership and mentorship to 32 front line supervisors and over 600 enlisted personnel. He has recently been an advisor to the state of North Dakota on Military Funeral Honor functions and requirements.

“Mitch has a genuine desire to reconnect with the veteran community and brings a true servant leadership style to his work,” said Morton County Human Resources Director Wendy Bent.

The Veterans Service Office assists veterans, their survivors and dependents through the process of obtaining benefits they qualify for, should the need arise.

Erhardt will replace Ronald Otto who will retire in March 2018 after serving over 30 years in the role.

During the meeting, the commission also approved a resolution for a revised Morton County Emergency Operations Plan. The resolution recognizes the importance of planning in preparation for likely local emergencies and the necessity of having a comprehensive emergency operations plan useful for all communities and jurisdictions within Morton County.
