Social Media Policy



Our social media pages are official communications venues for Morton County and the Morton County Sheriff's Office.  They provide residents and other community stakeholders with timely information about matters of importance including programs, announcements, and other information.




The pages serve as an additional public information conduit, complementing and interfacing with other public information delivery options including the Morton County website, news releases, and other media.


Terms of Use


Please be aware that when engaging with Morton County or the Morton County Sheriff's Office officials and staff through social media that followers or subscribers agree to adhere to the terms of use as follows:


Please keep comments clean and appropriate.  Inappropriate comments are subject to deletion by the administrators of these accounts.  Messages or posts that don't comply with the guidelines may be removed by an account administrator.  If a party repeatedly posts inappropriate content, an account administrator may block the party from additional posting to the site.  The sites are not monitored at all times.  DO NOT use the sites to report emergency situations or time sensitive issues.  Those issues are best reported with a telephone call. 


Morton County manages these pages as a means to promote discourse and information exchange between our departments and the citizens of Morton County.  These pages are not intended to create or to be a public forum and therefore the following conditions for the use of this page apply.



  • Questions, information, or comments related to the subject matter of this site are welcome provided they do not violate any of the prohibited content listed below.
  • You participate at your own risk, taking personal responsibility for your comments, your username, and any information provided.
  • All comments are subject to the open records law.
  • The appearance of external links on this site does not constitute official endorsements on behalf of Morton County or the Morton County Sheriff's Office.
  • A posting on this page constitutes acceptance of these terms.

Prohibited content includes:

  • Posts that encourage illegal activity or disruption of public order.
  • Posts that are off topic or spam.
  • Graphic, obscene, or explicit comments or submissions.
  • Comments that are abusive, threatening, hateful or intended to defame anyone or any organization.
  • Content that promotes, fosters, or perpetuates discrimination on basis of race, creed, color, age, religion, gender, marital status, status with regard to public assistance, national origin, physical or mental disability, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
  • Posts by persons whose profile picture or avatar, username, or email address contains any of the aforementioned prohibited conduct. 
  • Solicitations or advertisements.  This includes promotion or endorsement of a financial, commercial, or non-governmental agency.  Similarly, posts are not allowed that defame or defraud any person or financial, commercial, or governmental agency.
  • Posts in violation of NDCC Chapter 16.1-10-02, which prohibits the use of state or political subdivision services or property for political purposes.
  • Information intended to compromise the safety or security of our employees, the public or public systems.
  • Content that reveals personal, medical, or financial information of any individual that is not otherwise part of the public record.
